Just finished narrating the Story of Joan of Arc, by Andrew Lang. Andrew Lang collected and published a large number of books of fairy tales. He was also a noted history scholar and translated Greek classics. He researched the story of Joan of Arc extensively, from court records and other accounts from the day. He has condensed the mass of sometimes contradictory evidence into a clear and simple narrative, suitable even as a children's story. It may read like a children's story, but Joan of Arc was a very real figure who played an historic role in the events of her time.

Just completed the recording of Annie Besant's autobiography. It can be found at Librivox here:

http://librivox.org/annie-besant-by-annie-besant/

In her autobiography, Annie Besant poignantly writes of her search for the truth of what she believed in, leaving Christianity behind to embrace Atheism, and ultimately finding her peace in Theosophy, which she became interested in after meeting Helena Blavatsky. She moved to India to better study Theosophical ideas and this is where she made her home until her death. She was a gifted orator and writer, often speaking and writing on her religious beliefs, as well as women's rights and social reform. Along with Charles Bradlaugh, she published a paper in support of birth control. It proved to be so controversial for the times that it led to a court trial.   ~summary by Laura Victoria

My first Librivox recording has been added to the collection. It is the story of the life of St. Vincent de Paul.

I had been unfamiliar with who he was before reading this. He was a truly remarkable person who selflessly devoted his life to bettering the conditions of the poor and sick. His influence for good continues around the world to this day. His story can be found here:
